RTF Entry Form (12K)

You’re Invited!

Our Annual Exhibit is open to all members and we encourage you to enter one or two of your scientific or nature-related illustrations to be part of the Bozeman, Montana, conference. This year the exhibit will be displayed in the MSU School of Architecture’s Lower Gallery (located at Cheever Hall) on the University campus and available for viewing throughout the conference.

The juried exhibit will be for original artwork or gallery quality prints, preferably giclee (inkjet), of traditional artwork, and also digitally created or modified art. (No magazine tearsheets, 133-line 4-color offset prints or photographs with fine lines that print blurry). Please note that for jurying your entries, high-quality slides and/or digital files are essential.

The jury will consist of a combination of 3–5 highly skilled artists, designers, and scientists, who are not current members of GNSI, but are creators or users of the type of art we make.

* On the entry form we ask for a research description. We’d like to know what was involved in creating your entry image. Perhaps your client presented subject or concept, or was it your own choice of subject or concept. Describe how you developed the concept or scene into visual image and how much research was involved on your part and by what resources you achieved your final results. We don’t want long explanation, rather an overview of the process by which your illustration evolved.

* We added new category: Cartoons. Our definition is: drawing intended as satire, caricature evoking humor, or illustration using simplistic, unrealistic or one-dimensional figures, with the intention to tell story, make point, convey concept or make topical comment, in each case, of scientific or nature-related subject.

Criteria for entries.

Current GNSI members may submit up to two samples of their scientifi c or nature-related artwork, originals or prints, not previously shown in an annual GNSI exhibit, in one of the following forms:

Preferred entry is by e-mail with attached digital image of good quality. Max. 3072 pixels, min. 1500 pixels in the longest dimension, not to exceed 10 megabytes. We seek JPG quality of 10/12, color space: sRGB. A well-lit 2x2 inch 35mm slide is also acceptable. Please write artist’s name and title of artwork on the frame of the slide. Each submission must have a copy of the exhibit entry form with it. You may photocopy the exhibit entry form, and you may also access the information and entry form for the exhibit at http://gnsi.science-art.com/2007MT/exhibits.shtml.

Again, note that high-quality slides and/ or digital fi les of your work are essential. Make sure that the slides or digital fi les meet the following criteria:

In sharp focus

Very evenly lit

Properly exposed, and, if digital art, of good color temperature

Art square on all 4 sides

Clean and neat

Submissions not meeting these requirements may be excluded from adjudication; acceptance may be limited to one entry per artist due to small gallery space.

All entries must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2007

Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you wish your submissions to be returned, otherwise, slides will go into the GNSI educational slide collection. You will receive notice of the jury’s decision by mid-May 2007. Information about labeling, artist’s comments and shipping address will be sent after selection for the exhibit has been made.

Your Signature on the Entry Form Constitutes your Acceptance of the Following Policies:

Your signature on the entry form constitutes your acceptance of the following policies: Your submission of your entry constitutes permission to use your artwork for promotional purposes such as a poster, brochures, articles in the GNSI Newsletter and for local news media as well as printed exhibit catalog and/or an on-line exhibit catalog. On-line images will be visually watermarked if displayed at high resolution. Please note on your entry form any exceptions you have to this policy.

We reserve the right to reject art for display if it is deemed not to be of the quality represented in the judged image, or is not properly mounted and framed.

Criteria of Shipping and Deadlines:

Framing:

All two dimensional artwork must be matted in a simple frame with double hanging wire and ready to hang. Any color mat is acceptable. There is a size limitation of 36” width maximum for framed artwork. Glazing with acrylic is required. For friable media such carbon dust or pastel, use double mat and perhaps spacers between glazing and mat. Spacers must be attached to the back of the frame to protect frame and wall. The Exhibit committee and Cheever Hall managers reserve the right to reject any improperly framed artwork.

Packaging:

Please ship your artwork in sturdy boxes and packaging that ensure safe delivery and return. Simple protection can be made with plastic foam style pipe insulation from home building supply store. The foam comes slit and can be cut to size and slipped onto the frame. Attach a copy of the entry form to the back of your framed work.

Insurance:

Artists are responsible for insurance and shipping to and from the exhibit. Please include prepaid return shipping label with the artwork. Neither Cheever Hall nor the Guild is responsible for damage during shipping and delivery of artwork. Cheever Hall will insure the art while in the building during the exhibit and temporary storage.

Accepted artwork must be delivered between June 25 and July 10, 2007 (final receiving date) to Cheever Hall. It will be stored in their secure locked gallery until it is hung for the show. There will be an attendant at the show at all times that it is open. The gallery is locked when the exhibit is closed for view. The shipping address will be sent after selection for the exhibit has been made.

Damage:

Any damage that is sustained in shipping can be repaired in Bozeman at the artist’s expense.

Information about labeling, artist’s statements, and shipping address will be sent after selection for the exhibit has been made.
